"A goal without a plan is just a wish"

With just 74 days to go until I set off on my 3 week European adventure, planning is well underway. I've booked flights, hostels, researched trains, night trains, how to get from Venice to Croatia (how to get from Venice to anywhere actually...) and shelled out £20 for a travel guide that probably weighs too much to actually take with me...

... What can I say, I'm a sucker for lonely planet books.

The one thing about planning this trip that's caused a real problem is the realization of how few places you can actually visit in 20 days. The balancing act between getting in as many cities as possible, and actually getting to spend some time in those cities is difficult, and having settled for 2 or 3 days in each place, has seriously limited the possibility of seeing a lot of Europe. From my original plan I've removed Copenhagen, Berlin, Luxembourg, Krakow, Ljubljana and others, so that the current plan looks like this:

  1. Milan, Italy
  2. Verona, Italy
  3. Venice, Italy
  4. Zagreb, Croatia
  5. Budapest, Hungary
  6. Bratislava, Slovakia
  7. Vienna, Austria
  8. Prague, Czech Republic
  9. Zurich, Switzerland
  10. Vaduz, Liechtenstein
  11. Amsterdam, the Netherlands

We've opted to camp most of the time, (with a hostel break in Budapest for only £7/night!) but finding campsites that don't leave you stranded miles from the city centre is difficult, but the bonus of costing significantly less than hostels or hotels is good enough for me. Also I'd be lying if I said I didn't love camping, it's something about the fresh air.

So there is the trip plan so far! Admittedly preparing to interrail around Europe is more time-consuming and expensive than I realized at first, but having something to take my mind off exams is brilliant and the excitement for this trip might just be enough to get me through them!
Until next time, au revoir!
